Notebooks 8 App Reviews

On of my most-used apps

I use this app constantly, not least because its functionality allowed me to replace about four other apps. And I love the fact that the underlying files it creates are largely platform-agnostic. Support was very prompt and helpful when I had a problem (which turned out to be user error).

Outstanding app

An utter pleasure of a tool: flexible, thoughtful, comfortable. Its able to handle docs from virtually any application. It solves so many problems and makes my devices so useful!!

The best notebook app out there

This notebook app runs so smoothly in every way. It works great on my iPadAir2. I love the extra keyboard shortcuts at the top of the keyboard and how they save time having everything available at your fingertips. It uses the iPadAir2 split screen. Best notebook app out there. Ive tried several. Check out their website for all the features. Also, they are quick to help if you have questions or problems (I havent had any problems with it but only a question or two). Its totally worth the cost.

New look, same features, missing one important part.

The app is one of my most used on all my devices for both work and personal. Its unlimited nesting & somewhat reliable syncing are great features. What is missing is the most important part with any app that can store highly classified or personal information, encryption. While the hide feature with a password are good, it is not so good once synced to a cloud based service, especially Dropbox, which we know regularly provides to the US Government. I would give this app 5 stars if it fully encrypted all data everywhere and used a secure sync like iCloud. UPDATE: Still waiting on iCloud full encryption syncing. Until then its only really good for recipes.

Excellent app

Has all the note-taking functionality one can reasonably expect from a smartphone app. Syncs great, can hardly remember any issues. Robust, too. Even when it crashes (which it rarely does), usually no data is lost. Good design, sleek and nice to look at. Search power/usability should be improved but it definitely gets the job done.

Best text editor out there for organizing

Looking for a text editor, task-manager, document organizer, Markdown editor all rolled in one? This is the app for you. This app is so good, Im considering writing a manual and "best uses" book about it. If you need to write documents and organize them into folders, you wont find a better app then this. And dont forget to purchase the Mac application to accompany this and sync your documents.

Daily app

I keep everything here. I love that documents are not stored in a proprietary format. A great product.

The best note taking app!

I have used Notebooks since it first came out for the iPhone and also use it on my iPad and MacBook Pro. It synchronizes your notes across all devices. Its the best note taking apps as you can store notes in an hierarchical manner unlike Evernote or the dozen other flat file type approach that only allows for categories. I use it everyday to organize my life both for work and personal activities.

I use it everyday

I wish the developers would remove the swipe to delete function, but otherwise this is a really solid app. No bugs that I have found. Makes organizing notes easy. I use it every day. Adding a function for encrypting notes beyond adding a 4-digit passcode would be a big upgrade.

NOTEBOOKS IS A CRASH MACHINE

NOTEBOOKS IS A CRASH MACHINE, so I had to move on to a different companys app! Alfons Schmids Notebooks used to be my main writing space, but now it only crashes with version 8. I was suckered into paying to move to this latest and greatest. I was so looking forward to having two open docs side-by-side, but the crashing means I havent been able to use that even once. This app used to be a reliable app, but now it is impossible for me to use on an iPad 4 running iOS 9 and other devices. I also kept installed the next-to-the-last version of Notebooks, in case there were "testing pains" for the newest version. Unfortunately, while I can at least open documents and read them in that backup, it crashes as soon as I edit a document. Its a good thing I use Dropbox sync for Notebooks, so I havent lost my data. I also can use something like the venerable Droptext by Kevin Smith to do minor updates to this effectively "archived data silo" called Notebooks. Have you been forced to move on, too? Check out the astounding Editorial app. It has revolutionary "diff" capabilities, to look at your documents Dropbox history in more than one way. This is super powerful when needing to recover from a disadvantageous edit.

My most-used app

Still my fav app. The nested books, Markdown format, syncing, all works. Perfect for travel journals: I send the days entry to my mailing list and produce an ebook for friends upon my return. Wonderful on the iPad. I use it for everything. Dont know what Id do without it.

Youll love this app.

I use this app every day. Its extremely easy to use and Ive had absolutely no problems with it. There is a learning curve one has to go through at first. But once over that youll be using it at least once a day. Simply make a notebook and then add anything you want on a topic page. The big thing I like about this app, even after a long period of time after youve added to a book topic its still there. Theres no purging or loss of what youve added, say, 2yrs ago. Its worth every penny to buy. Give it a try, youll end up buying it like I did.

Fantastic, robust, versatile

This is an outstanding app--one of my most used and the only one I use for composition, from notes to books. The organizational folder structure, the integrated Markdown, and PDF processing combine into one app what I used to need several apps to do. My only hope would be that the PDF markup tools would become more developed. They lack the strength of apps like Goodreader for writing on PDFs in particular. Very much worth the investment.

Exceptional Product

I have been a Notebooks user for years on the iPhone and iPad. I also use the much less functional Mac version. The iOS app is exceptional and continues to get better. The in-app purchase of the PDF extension is amazing and my Dropbox sync is invaluable and has never failed me. Also, I continue to discover more uses. Bravo!

Good app

I use this app a lot. I like the ability to nest and organize notebooks as well as always have the info with me. One small bug-the tab doesnt work making it hard to format documents. Otherwise, I like it a lot.

Transitioning from Notes

I used to use Apples native app "Notes" for writing. Now that Ive discovered "Notebook" Ive been transitioning as its a much more refined as well as advanced app. Also available for your laptop computer, Im using it more there as well.

CRASHES ON STARTUP

Please fix. Great app before iOS 9 Update: 11/15/15 it is still broken. It only opens in landscape otherwise it crashes on startup. Please fix this soon. Update: We are back in business. The app is great again

Terrific application!

This is one of my most used apps. It works extremely well and keeps my information organized. When I have had questions about the app, the developer has been excellent about answering and is very prompt in response. It is one of the best apps I have.

Tremendously useful

Ive tried a bunch of other apps for organizing notes and other related documents. Notebooks has by far the best interface of any of them. The syncing between the Mac version and the iOS version is seamless.

Problems with ios 7

This used to be a rock-solid app, unique in its class. No longer, unfortunately. Its last update (two weeks ago, now) crashes immediately under ios 7, with no further update in sight (have tried to alert the developer, without response). Under the latest ios 9 it seems to work well, but certain syncing anomalies have crept in, leaving it no longer 100% reliable. Hope for happier days once again, but beware of finding a given recently-created notebook empty upon opening it a second time.
